Jessica Simpson feels like blonde bombshell Jayne Mansfield after being body-shamed by Vogue writer Sally Singer, as reported by Bridget Hill. In a Vogue article titled “Only at the Met Gala” various accounts of Met Gala experiences were shared. Sally Singer told a story about Jessica Simpson and John Mayer attending the event that isn’t going over well with Jessica. In fact, the 39-year-old mother of three is calling the report downright inaccurate. Singer thought about all of the stories she could tell and decided upon a story regarding Jessica Simpson’s breasts. According to Singer, Jessica Simpson suffered a near wardrobe disaster that caused the Vogue digital creative director to remark solely upon Jessica’s body and breasts. Singer went on to say that Jessica’s breasts were “on a platter” and John Mayer was touching them during dinner. The remarks have sparked outrage across social media and Jessica’s response has many siding with her. Jessica spoke out about Jayne Mansfield and the infamous picture that was taken at a Paramount Studios party where Jayne wore a plunging, low-cut dress that bared all her cleavage and Sophia Loren was caught staring at her chest.
Jessica Simpson shared the iconic photo and wrote the following caption.
“Feeling a little like Jayne Mansfield after reading this (inaccurate!) oral history of the #MetBall where I am body shamed by #SallySinger (https://www.vogue.com/article/the-complete-met-gala-oral-history) 😜…But in all seriousness I have persevered through shaming my own body and internalizing the world’s opinions about it for my entire adult life. To read this much anticipated article about the classiest fashion event there is and have to be shamed by another woman for having boobs in 2020 is nauseating.”
Actress January Jones responded in agreement.
“Love this pic so much! And no? women should not be talking about other women’s bodies period unless it’s to give a compliment or point out a suspicious looking mole. ❤️”

“One year Jessica Simpson was there with John Mayer. She was wearing Michael Kors and her breasts maybe fell out of her dress on the red carpet…and then at dinner, it was suddenly like, whoa, Jessica Simpson’s breasts are across from me at the dinner table and they are on a platter and I’m looking at them. And John Mayer was putting his hands on them at the dinner table. He kind of reached down and I just remember thinking, Oh, celebrities, feel free to play here. That’s what’s going on.”

While many people agreed with Jessica Simpson, there were a few who took a more disapproving approach. One commenter seemed to agree with the criticism and stated the following.
“It’s not about having them it’s about displaying them inappropriately. Seeing the nipple line is truly just unflattering and just gives people insecurities of awkwardness. Be tasteful about displaying your body, not scandalous.”
Vanity Fair caught up with Sophia Loren and asked her about that party and the story behind the infamous photo. What may be surprising to learn is that Sophia was more concerned for Jayne than actively body-shaming her. You may read what she said below.
“Paramount had organized a party for me. All of cinema was there, it was incredible. And then comes in Jayne Mansfield, the last one to come. For me, that was when it got amazing. . . . She came right for my table. She knew everyone was watching. She sat down. And now, she was barely . . . Listen. Look at the picture. Where are my eyes? I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate. In my face you can see the fear. I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow—BOOM!—and spill all over the table.
Actually, many, many times I am given this photo to autograph it. And I never do. I don’t want to have anything to do with that. And also out of respect for Jayne Mansfield because she’s not with us anymore.”
