Kristin Cavallari Was ‘Blindsided’ When Jay Cutler Filed For Divorce

The news of Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler’s divorce shocked fans when it broke earlier this week, but a new report claims that Cavallari herself was “blindsided” by Cutler’s sudden filing after the couple returned from the Bahamas earlier this month.

According to E! News, Cavallari has known for months her marriage to Cutler was over. But, she had no idea that he was going to file for divorce so quickly.

“She had hoped they could work things out more amicably and they were off to a good start before Jay pulled the trigger,” claims an insider.

Other sources claim that before Cutler filed, he and Cavallari had discussed their split and agreed to splitting custody of their three children 50/50. However, when he filed for divorce, Cutler stated in his documents that he was the “available at home parent and the primary caretaker of the parties’ minor children.”

Cutler’s claim that he was the primary caregiver apparently caught Cavallari “off guard,” and it caused the Uncommon James owner to immediately respond.

“His filing was basically trying to take her out of the equation so she had to respond strongly. She’s not going to be taken out of the equation when it comes to her children,” explains a second source.

A third insider says that Cutler was a professional athlete in the NFL for the majority of his marriage to Cavallari, so to call himself the primary caregiver just because he is retired and Cavallari is working is “not accurate.”

Because of Cutler’s claim that he is the primary caregiver, Cavallari is now going to fight for full custody because she “feels she can raise the kids in the safest environment.”

Information about the couple’s broken relationship has started to emerge from numerous sources and their court filings. According to Us Weekly, things were “so bad” in Cutler and Cavallari’s marriage that she signed a contract for a new home last November without objection from Cutler. However, she backed out of the purchase because she and Cutler decided to try again and attempt to “salvage their marriage.”

Everything was “amicable” between the couple for months even though they knew their relationship was over, and they were trying to come to a custody agreement and divide their assets before filing for divorce. However, something suddenly changed, and Jay Cutler filed for divorce without Kristin Cavallari’s knowledge.

Now, she says that he has advised his business manager not to release funds to Cavallari so she can purchase the home she wanted to buy in November. Instead, they are living in separate parts of their Nashville home, which she called an “unhealthy environment” in her court filing.
