Caitriona Balfe And The Rest Of The ‘Outlander’ Team Step Up To Back Sam Heughan After He Dropped A Few Bombshells

Caitriona Balfe and many others have rallied around Sam Heughan after he shocked the world with a very personal letter where he addressed the bullying, trolling, and wild accusations that he has been subjected to for the past six years.

The popular Outlander actor gave a long list of bizarre stories that were fabricated about him and his loved ones.

The Scottish actor said he had been falsely accused of “manipulating fans,” “being a closet-homosexual,” and making erroneous comments about the coronavirus pandemic.

He wrote: “After the past six years of constant bullying, harassment, stalking, and false narrative, I am at a loss, upset, hurt, and have to speak out. It’s affecting my life, mental state, and is a daily concern. My costars, friends, family, myself, in fact, anyone I’m associated with, has been subjected to personal slurs, shaming, abuse, death threats, stalking, sharing of private information, and vile, false narrative. I’ve never spoken about it because I believe in humanity and have always hoped these bullies would just go away. I can’t elaborate for ongoing legal reasons, but they are professionals: teachers, psychologists, adults who should know better.”

He added: “I am at a loss, upset, hurt, and have to speak out. It’s affecting my life, mental state, and is a daily concern … I’ve never spoken about it because I believe in humanity and always hoped these bullies would just go away.”

For several hours #WeStandwithSam trended on Twitter.

Caitriona had this to say on the matter: “Sad that Sam has had to come out and say all this. I would have thought to mean bitchy behavior would have been left in the schoolyard. But unfortunately a VERY SMALL but very vocal part of this fandom use their energy to write and say awful untrue things … maybe they should harness all that energy to get involved in their local charities.”

She added: “And honestly, it’s quite simple … If you don’t like us. It’s a big beautiful world out there. Find something you do love and enjoy that. Life, as it’s all too clear right now, is short. Why waste it hating.”

Executive producer Maril Davis wrote: “A sad reminder that we all need to be respectful and kind to one another.”

Outlander series author Diana Gabaldon also revealed: “I don’t know what possesses some people, but the bottom line is Sam’s private life is exactly that. _Nothing_ he does is anyone’s business.”
