Billie Eilish Says She ‘Can’t Win’ After Critics Blast Her For Posting Swimsuit Pics On Vacation

Billie Eilish is always wearing over-sized clothing because the signature look keeps people from having opinions about her body, since they have never had the chance to see it. The 18-year-old has been a vocal champion for body positivity ever since she released her album last year, but now she is speaking out about the criticism she faced for posting “tame” bathing suit photos and videos while on vacation.

While speaking with Dazed magazine for their spring/summer 2020 issue, Eilish clapped back at the trolls who commented on a post that featured her Hawaiian vacation early this year. The Bad Guy singer also admitted that trying to please everyone is an exercise in futility.

“I saw comments like, ‘How dare she talk about not wanting to be sexualized and wear this?!’” Eilish recalled. “It was trending. There were comments like, ‘I don’t like her anymore because as soon as she turns 18 she’s a whore.’ Like, dude. I can’t win.”

During a behind-the-scenes video for a Calvin Klein ad campaign in May 2019, Eilish said that no one can have an opinion about her body because they haven’t seen what is underneath her clothes.

“Nobody can be like, ‘she’s slim-think,’ ‘she’s not slim-think,’ ‘she’s got a flat a–,’ ‘she’s got a fat a–.’ No one can say any of that because they don’t know,” said Eilish.

Fans have been extremely supportive of Eilish since she released when we all fall asleep, where do we go? in March, 2019. Her unique fashion choices and her decision to cover up her body instead of being sexualized like most female pop stars has been a welcome change for many.

One fan tweeted that Eilish wears big, baggy clothes so that no one can make assumptions, judge, or body shame her, and that makes them love her as an artist and person even more. Others have added that it is heartbreaking to see Eilish feel so compelled to cover her body so she can “avoid miserable people who like to body shame for no reason.”

Billie Eilish is not apologizing for her vacation photos, and she says that hiding under baggy clothes has had an affect on her. She says that there was a moment last year when she was naked and didn’t recognize her body because she hadn’t seen it in a while.

“I would see it sometimes and be like, ‘Whose body is that?’” said Eilish.

The Grammy winner says that she is a “bit more OK” with her self-image, and she has the right to change her look whenever she wants. However, Eilish says that if she did that she would be hated for it.

“I’m not rebelling against anything, really. I can’t stress it enough. I’m just wearing what I wanna wear. If there’s a day when I’m like, ‘You know what, I feel comfortable with my belly right now and I wanna show my belly,’ I should be allowed to do that,” said Eilish.
