Toyota urgent recall: Over 3 million cars in global fuel pump recall – over 4,000 UK cars

Toyota’s issues involve fuel pump problems which could cause the engine to stall in a potential safety risk. The Japanese firm’s latest recall will affect 3.2million vehicles globally and dozens of models across their Toyota and Lexus brands.

In a statement provided to Express.co.uk, Toyota have confirmed the recall will affect 4,466 vehicles across the Lexus brand only. 

Almost 4,000 of the affected cars are the RX450h model with 200 LC500 or 500h designs also set to be called back. 

All affected UK models were predicted between October 2017 and January 2019 and include other Lexis designs such as the GS250 and NX200t. 

Vehicles involved in the latest recall will be modified by early May where dealers will replace the fuel pump error.Garages will fit an improved pump into the car to improve the issue with all repairs free of charge for owners.

“Dependent on model, the repair will take between one hour and forty minutes to four hours and ten minutes.”

The fuel pump recall began as early as January after the car firm issued callbacks on 700,000 models for the issue.

Toyota has since added an extra 1.1million vehicles to their US recall as well as expanding to the regions.

A statement on the Toyota website said: “Toyota is amending a safety recall involving fuel pumps that was announced on January 13, 2020.

“This can result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.”

Toyota has told the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) they were aware of 2,571 warranty claims related to fuel pump issues.

Many car owners have complained of problems involving their car failing to start and loss of power while behind the wheel.

Toyota said models affected were built between 2013 and 2019 and include some of the companies very latest designs. 2018 and 2019 editions of the Toyota Avalon, Camry and Corolla will be affected in the recall as well as a selection of their SUV and truck designs.

Toyota’s premium Lexus brand has also been hit by the issues with their brand new ES 350, GS 350 and IS 300 just some affected.

A range of Lexus vehicles built between 2013 and 2015 are also affected including popular designs such as the 2014-2015 Toyota 4 Runner and Land Cruiser. The recall now affects 1.8million vehicles sold in the United States while over 158,262 recalled in Canada.
