Meghan Markle to get superhero role as The Rock’s sidekick in Black Adam? Here’s why

According to the latest reports, Meghan Markle, The Duchess of Sussex, requested her agent Nick Collins to find her a “superhero role”. The former actress allegedly thought this would be the best way for her to get back into acting after her two-year hiatus following her move to the UK and marriage into the royal family. During The Lion King premiere in London last year, Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, was seen and heard talking to Disney boss Bob Iger about his wife’s abilities to do voiceover work.

It remains to be seen whether anything definitely came of this conversation, and whether Markle will have a larger role in the Walt Disney company going forward.

But if she does get her reported wish of joining a smash hit superhero film, it could actually be with DC Comics instead, and Black Adam could be the perfect timing for her.

The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, has posted sporadic updates of his training schedule for the latest DC character, but little else is known about the film’s cast and characters – other than those from the comic books.

It could be the perfect opportunity for Markle to join the filming, particularly because if she wants a fresh start, a film alongside huge superstar The Rock and current fan-favourite all around the world would undoubtedly propel her to the top of the A -List in Hollywood.

Black Adam is a fictional supervillain and was created by Otto Binder and C. C. Beck.

Not the typical superhero, Black Adam is Shazam’s archenemy, and difficult to root for.

When he first shared the news of his exciting new role on his official Instagram page, The Rock said: “The Man in Black. Like most kids growing up, I dreamed about being a superhero. Having cool superpowers, fighting for what’s right and always protecting the people.

“It all changed for me, when I was 10yrs old and was first introduced to the greatest superhero of all time – SUPERMAN. As a kid, Superman was the hero I always wanted to be. But, a few years into my fantasy, I realised that Superman was the hero, I could never be.

“I was too rebellious. Too rambunctious. Too resistant to convention and authority. Despite my troubles, I was still a good kid with a good heart – I just liked to do things my way. Now, years later as a man, with the same DNA I had as a kid – my superhero dreams have come true.

“I’m honoured to join the iconic #DCUniverse and it’s a true pleasure to become, BLACK ADAM,” the former WWE champion continued. “BLACK ADAM is blessed by magic with the powers equal to SUPERMAN, but the difference is he doesn’t toe the mark or walk the line.

“He’s a rebellious, one of a kind superhero, who’ll always do what’s right for the people – but he does it his way. Truth and justice – the BLACK ADAM way. This role is unlike any other I’ve ever played in my career and I’m grateful to the bone we’ll all go on this journey together.”

The film is due to be released December 22, 2021, so would potentially allow plenty of time for Markle to join the cast.

It would also give the actress the opportunity to flex her talents as a complex and potentially villainous character – and also gives her the opportunity to sign up to an ongoing franchise.

What’s more, according to a new interview with an unnamed movie executive, Markle may not be able to get a large part with Disney, despite the already numerous reports she will be joining the company.

The Duchess is said to have been “limited” to a smaller role, due to being a “controversial figure”.

Responding to the recent speculation, a mystery film boss told The Mail on Sunday there were “limited plans” for Markle in the company.

“Meghan needs Disney more than Disney needs Meghan,” the executive reportedly told the publication. She’s a controversial figure.”

The source added: “There have been reports of a deal but that’s not true beyond the voiceover work.”

Could this mean DC Comics will feel differently and jump at the chance to hire the Duchess long-term instead?
