Apple iPhones are a weird category of smartphones that the world is coming to know off, not that we are not a fan of it. But with the premium pricing, no new iPhone is affordable especially in a budget-sensitive market like India. Despite this shortcoming, iPhones have a vast advantage over any Android phone including Google’s very own Pixel series. This advantage we are talking about is the software update cycle and how well the iPhones last in comparison. But since pricing is the key factor while buying a smartphone in India and how Android phones are evolving slowly, the masses usually don’t keep an iPhone in their list. So, is there an alternative for a common man who wishes to own an iPhone? There is, the iPhone SE.

It was a special product for the company as it combined power and Apple’s nostalgia 4-inch form factor. Then again, since we are in times of modern displays and form factors, it feels SE is outdated now and the very next and the best alternative is the iPhone 6. I mean, yes it is not as powerful as the recent iPhones but the iPhone 6 does feature a slightly more modern aluminium build in a larger form factor. This is not the only reason why we feel the iPhone 6 is still relevant in 2019 compared to a section of Android counterparts, there are few others too and we will be checking them up today. Let’s dive right into it.

Most Android phones these days come with a good 6-inches display with ultra-slim bezels and a notch. However, the iPhone 6 follows the good old trend with a 16:9 aspect ratio and a 4.7-inch display. While having a bigger display is a huge plus, the form factor of the iPhone 6 will definitely please compact lovers. It is easy to reach all corners and doesn’t have to put pressure on your hands as well. Another advantage with the iPhone 6 is the premium build. Yes, Android phones come with a glass and metal builds, but the premium aluminium build of the iPhone 6 just feels solid in hands and at around 130 grams’ weight, it is easily the light-weight phone in the segment.

Another most important aspects that make the iPhones more premium for its pricing is its software and the update cycle. How would you feel when I say an iPhone from 2013 has got the iOS 12 update in 2018, yes that’s a good 5-year cycle and the phone we are talking about is the iPhone 5s? It is no surprise when Apple announces software update to their oldest iPhone standing by its promise even years after the launch. Still not convinced? Let me paint another picture, Google who is the sole creator of Android only promises to roll out two-years of updates to its Pixel line-up, meaning the 2016 Pixel phones are not confirmed to get the Android Q update later this year. When the Pixel flagship’s future itself is not in the clear, don’t even bother looking at the budget segment Android phones.

This is where Apple hits it right out of the park. The iOS optimizations are so smooth that you wouldn’t notice any major performance issues even if you are running on the beta release. Apple’s entire control over the software results in such smooth performance, animations, transitions. While we are not saying mid-range Android phones are lagging behind completely, but when it comes to software and consistent update cycle, yes, the iPhones are the best. This makes the iPhone 6 a more relevant phone in 2019.

Conclusion: While there may be many reasons for an Android phone to outshine the iPhone 6, the latter hits back with excellent software optimizations, impressive build, software update cycles, and equally competitive cameras. Available online starting at Rs. 21,990, the iPhone 6 is every bit as powerful as the Android counterparts and a worthy option to consider even in 2019.
