These droplets are spread when sneezing or coughing but could also spread the virus through contact with infected hands around the mouth, nose and eyes area.
Practical Medicine said: “You must remember, the ease of transmission of the said virus from person to person could differ.
“Some viruses are very infectious, such as measles, meaning they transmit very easily, and some less so.
“There is currently no certainty how easily the coronavirus 2019-nCoV spreads between humans, as research is ongoing.”
Speaking on Tuesday, Mr Hancock told everyone to heed advice from medical experts.
He said: “It’s in your interest, in your family’s interest and in the national interest.”
