Fury as Trump themed coffee shop opens near LGBTQ bar – 'Rather drink battery acid!'

A new coffee shop in Florida, US, prides itself on its outlandish political support for president Donald Trump. The shop features cutouts of Trump and FLOTUS, Melania, as well as an entire reproduction of the Oval Office that customers can pose for photos in front of.

Controversially printed “black coffee matters” t-shirts and “Make America Great Again” hats can be bought at the till.

It is, co-owner Cliff Gephart, a place where American conservatives can go without feeling it necessary to mask their political inclinations.

He told local news: “It’s a place for conservatives to feel welcome.

“There’s not going to be anyone throwing a drink in your face because you’re wearing a MAGA hat.”

Yet, all of this isn’t intended to be political, Mr Gephart insists.

Instead, he says the shop is about much more than left or right, and told The Washington Post: “I don’t feel like we’re catering to one party.

“It’s about a conservative lifestyle.”

Since the store was announced, Democrats and Republicans alike have taken to social media in order either praising or critiquing the shop’s opening.

Mr Gephart says there shouldn’t be a source of tension as the shop’s financial contributors come from a diverse and wide-ranging set of people, including those who are LGBTQ.

In Largo, where Conservative Grounds is located, neighbouring businesses have taken precautions in advance of the shop’s opening.

Andrew Apted, who owns business, Dharma Kava Lounge, nearbyy, said: “Our community isn’t as polarising as this makes us seem.

“It’s dividing us over coffee of all things, and coffee shouldn’t divide us because we all like coffee.”

The idea for the coffee shop was borne out of an incident that happened at a Starbucks in Arizona last year.

Six police officers were asked to leave after a customer complained that their presence made the customer uncomfortable.

Mr Gephart said he was further angered when he found out that an Oklahoma police officer’s Starbuck’s order was labelled “PIG” last November.

He said: “It’s about respect for our police officers, for our law enforcement.”

Conservatives have taken issue with Starbucks, including boycotting its secular holiday cups.

In contrast, Conservative Grounds encourages customers to practice their rights, encouraging them to bring their guns in-store.

And, it isn’t the only openly conservative cafe to have opened as of recent.

The Trumped Store and Coffee House in Arizona sells teddy bears with comb-overs and “acquitted forever” baseball caps along with its house coffee.

Around a thousand people turned out for the soft opening of Conservative Grounds last weekend.
