PS4 update: Big PlayStation release coming soon from Sony?

PS4 fans are still hoping for a few more updates during 2020, before the launch of Sony’s next-gen console. Recent rumours suggest that the PS5 reveal could be happening in March, signalling Sony’s planned transition to its next gaming machine. The PlayStation 5 release date won’t be coming until late in 2020 and may fans are hoping that means there is still time for a few more features to arrive on PS4.

The last big system update was launched in October 2019 and included the expansion of the Remote Play feature.

The tech giant removed many of the Android limitations, making it possible to stream games to a number of leading mobile phones, instead of just Sony ones.

PlayStation development team also made it possible to link Bluetooth controllers to Android 10 devices, which is another big boost to fans.

Not only can PS4 gamers now use Remote Play properly on their Android phones, but they can use it on other apps too.

Call of Duty Mobile has proven very popular and now has added compatibility with PlayStation Dualshock controllers.

And little changes like this is what makes PS4 system updates so important to gamers throughout the year.

So when can we expect the new PS4 System update and will it contain anything noteworthy?

The good news is that Sony is indeed working on releasing its next system update for the PlayStation platforms.

Invites are being sent out worldwide to test PS4 firmware update 7.50, with a beta version expected to launch in the coming weeks.

The downside is that Sony has not mentioned that this new build will include anything other than Stability improvements.

This would suggest that the next firmware update is going to be quite small, or is just in the first stage of testing.

It’s completely possible that Sony will add further features before the 7.50 patch is released worldwide.

However, for now, it doesn’t look like we will be getting any new eye-catching features in March.

And while plenty of new features were added as part of the final PS4 System update in 2019, a few were also removed.

This included Facebook disappearing from the PlayStation platform in October 2019.

Starting on October 7th, 2019, Facebook’s integration was no longer supported on the PS4 system.

This included Facebook’s share features, leaving gamers unable to post gameplay and trophy activity, or use the friend finder feature.

This also meant that profile pictures imported from Facebook could no longer be used.

Sony apologised for the inconvenience caused by this change but there’s a chance Facebook will be returning in the future.

So with the new PS4 firmware update in testing, it will be interesting to see if something is announced for it, or if fans will have to wait until later in 2020 for the return of Facebook.
