Your EE bill will rise next month so now is a good time to make this simple change

Rises are never welcome but the BT-owned network says this is in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation, which is published by the Office for National Statistics in January of each year.

If you are affected by this hike, which comes into force from March 30 2020, then you should have received an email or letter which states: “We’re making some changes to the price of your mobile plan. We know price changes are never welcome, but it means we can continue to invest in our network and deliver the best possible experience.”

If you’re in line to pay more, now could be a good time to check your current contract and see if you can actually save some money.

Customers are often totally unaware of when their deal is coming to end which means some can end up paying way more than they need to.

EE currently has some very good ‘Limited Time’ offers which feature big data bundles at a very reasonable price and they are well worth considering if you are out of contract.

For example, you can get a generous 60GB of monthly data for £20 or 100GB for £27.

News of this price rise comes as the UK’s television, phone and broadband providers are being hit by tough new rules which should stop customers overpaying.

From now on, all Internet Service Providers (ISPs) including BT, Sky, Virgin Media and TalkTalk will have to contact customers to let them know when their current deal is coming to an end.

Until now, customers had to keep track of their contract themselves – leaving some paying the same rate, or more, well after the end of their contract had finished.

Although it’s unclear if mobile networks will have to follow the same rules it’s certainly a step in the right direction and should help consumers save money.

Speaking about the change, Ofcom Consumer Group Director Lindsey Fussell said: “Millions of people are out of contract right now and paying more than they need to. These new rules make it easier to grab a better deal.

“But you don’t need to wait to hear from your provider. Just a few minutes of your time could save you hundreds of pounds today.”
