Conor McGregor slammed by Khabib Nurmagomedov
UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has launched a scathing attack on Conor McGregor, accusing his bitter rival of ducking tough fights and mocking his UFC 246 victory over Donald Cerrone.
“‘Cowboy’ always lose all his main event fights,” Nurmagomedov told TMZ. “Always.
“I don’t remember when he win [won one]. And in [his] last 10 fights, I think he lost six or seven times.
“He’s not [a] high-level lightweight or welterweight right now. Of course he has a big name, but his time is finished. Conor picked a very good opponent.”
“Now he’s come back and he’s beat ‘Cowboy’, who has lost his seven times out of his last ten, they talk about, ‘Okay, this guy come back.’
“No, he has to fight with really tough opponents.
“Like Justin Gaethje or something like this. He has to fight [them] and he has to come back to [the] lightweight division, he has to cut weight. This is just my opinion.”
Dan Hooker eyes Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje
Following his split-decision victory over Paul Felder last weekend, Dan Hooker has set his sights on fights against Dustin Poirier or Justin Gaethje.
“[Gaethje]’s just an exciting guy,” Hooker said. “Six fights, six bonuses. It’s something that intrigues me.
“But then it looks like him and Conor are gonna go. If I was Conor I’d take the Gaethje fight too. That’s an incredibly exciting fight, if he wants to stay busy.
“But if Gaethje is busy, then Poirier is the man. Either Gaethje or Poirier, those are the only two options that make sense for me.”
Paulo Costa rips Israel Adesanya
Middleweight title contender Paulo Costa has laid into 185lb champion Israel Adesanya following the Nigerian-born Kiwi’s apology for his controversial 9/11 joke.
“Glad you learned your lesson. Now shut your big mouth already,” Costa tweeted with a picture of Adesanya’s apology. “Respect the people and be ready to be erased.”
Adesanya will defend his middleweight crown a week on Sunday morning, locking horns with perrrenial contender Yoel Romero.
