Next iOS upgrade could bring an important iPad feature to the iPhone

It seems Apple could be working on a new multitasking system for its iPhone series which looks remarkably similar to that from its tablet series. The clip shows a grid-style multitasking menu capable of displaying up to four previews of open applications.

At the moment, multitasking on iOS only shows one full app preview at once – with the others partially obscured behind like shuffled papers. You’ll need to scroll along to see everything in the suspended apps. Whereas the new multitasking system will seemingly enable users to see the status of more apps and quickly jump to them without having to scroll for as long.

The biggest downside of the new system, assuming it’s legitimate, is the fact each preview is smaller since more are being displayed at once. While this works well on an iPad where there is more screen real estate to play with, seeing the status of opened apps could be a bit trickier if you’re viewing things on a 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro for instance …or a teeny iPhone SE 2.

The video from 91Mobiles and Ben Geskin shows the user closing apps by swiping on them upwards. Once again, the smaller size of programmes mean there could be a greater chance of the user swiping and missing the app. In fact, the user showing off the new multitasking system in the clip does swipe and miss an app.
