Call of Duty Modern Warfare Battle Royale UPDATE: New clues ahead of release date

While we still don’t know much that is official about the new Call of Duty Modern Warfare Battle Royale mode, there does appear to be a few more hints popping up about it. Today saw the latest COD update released by developers Infinity Ward on PS4, Xbox One and PC. This new download clocked in at over 7GB and mostly contained Playlist changes, as well as a new map and bug fixes.

It also came with a warning from the development team that reads: “A small hotfix is going out now to fix an XP exploit and a bug that removed the throwing knife on spawn for Infected while in the Giant Infection playlist.

“If you encounter a “Rank Reset” pop up after downloading today’s update, please click “Continue” and hop into multiplayer. Your stats and rank will not reset.”

But what it didn’t include was any news regarding the Call of Duty Modern Warfare Battle Royale mode that has been leaked.

However, there was one thing that gamers noticed following today’s Call of Duty download.

The Modern Warfare menu screen was recently updated to include a Classified section, which has yet to be revealed.

And while that didn’t change today, a new teaser does appear to have been added, hinting at an upcoming reveal.

While the Classified wording still remains, behind it now flashes the message “Transmission Incoming”.

And if that isn’t a big clue about what’s coming next, then some fans are going to end up really disappointed.

Call of Duty Warzone is expected to be the name of the new Battle Royale mode, and according to the latest reports, it will also be a standalone product.

That means Warzone will be available to download for free on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

It also gives Activision the chance to carry on supporting Modern Warfare Battle Royale even after a new COD game has been released.

Earlier this year, reports suggested that Call of Duty Modern Warfare’s new Battle Royale mode would be launched in early March.

And barring a surprise drop from Activision, there’s a good chance that the company will reveal it before then.

That would mean a new announcement coming either this week, or in early March, both of which are entirely possible.

Meanwhile, Call of Duty Black Ops 5 is expected to be announced for release in 2020, replacing Modern Warfare.

And with the launch of Warzone, developers Treyarch would not need to develop its own Battle Royale mode.

And that means the return of Zombies mode could be in the offing, another popular COD feature.

As COD fans will know, Activision follows a three-year development cycle that includes its three studios, Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Infinity Ward.

Raven Software also plays a support role in most of these projects and has reportedly helped create Warzone.
