Chris Evans: Virgin Radio DJ left stunned and gobsmacked after surprising show revelation

Chris Evans, 54, was speechless after finding out his Virgin Radio show was streamed on YouTube every morning, meaning he is visible to all his listeners who are watching via the platform. The presenter revealed he didn’t know that the video or podcast version of the show existed, and was quite overwhelmed.

But before he was informed that he was live on the video streaming site, he encouraged his listeners to download the show’s podcast.

“People say ‘Do a podcast’ and I say ‘No, I do a radio show’ but apparently we’ve got one!” he giggled.

“I didn’t know that! So, we have podcast and you can subscribe to it.”

It became apparent that the radio host was also talking to his team of producers behind the scenes, as he suddenly became very excited and started reeling off a list of famous podcasts that he thought his show might relate to.

Once he had calmed down, Chris got back to telling listeners what to expect.

“The Chris Evans Breakfast Show podcast – you can subscribe to it and you WILL get things,” he insisted enthusiastically.

“Only the podcast,” he quickly added: “We’re not going to come round and give you a new telly or anything!”

Once again, Chris engaged in a quick conversation with the producers and it seemed the presenter was learning all sorts of new things about his own show.

Listeners could hear the DJ gasp and mumble under his breath before asking: “It’s on YouTube as well is it? Oh OK, brilliant,” he laughed, becoming quite flustered at the thought of being filmed.

“If I’d have known that, I would have put some lippy on! But they don’t tell me these things.”

The former BBC host quizzed the producers about how long he had been visible to listeners since he started the show in January 2019, and was shocked to learn the answer.

“How long has that been going on?! A long time?!

“Every interview I’ve ever done?!

“I don’t want to see them!”

It turned out Chris had learned that every show that he has broadcast had been recorded, and the interviews uploaded to YouTube separately so fans can rewatch their favourite celebs and bands.

Among the interviews on the streaming site, is last week’s chat with actor Jack Lowden, who snapped at the host for talking “too much” about his co-star instead of him.

Appearing on the show after the premiere of new WWE film Fighting With My Family, Jack didn’t seem too happy that Chris and Rachel Horne were chatting about fellow actress Florence Pugh.

“So, are we on here to talk about Florence Pugh?” he snapped jokingly.

Worried he’d offended his guest, the host quickly tried to rectify the situation: “Only briefly,” he reassured Jack.

“But we’ll get back to you in a minute… come on?” he laughed nervously, unable to tell whether Jack was messing around or not.

This awkward moment is one interview Chris might not want to rewatch.

The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
