Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 Release date: Bad news for Nintendo Switch fans

For now, gamers are having to rely on leaks and rumours when it comes to working out The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release date. What we know so far is that it BOTW 2 is in active development and is coming exclusively to Nintendo Switch. The launch date remains a mystery and gamers have been relying on unofficial sources to get the latest predictions.

The latest news suggests that The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 release date has been set for 2021. This information doesn’t come from Nintendo directly but the Sabi Twitter account, which has shared big news in the past.

Sabi, who correctly leaked tonnes of E3 2019 announcements, previously said Zelda Breath of the Wild 2 was planned for a 2020 release date.

This prediction changed earlier this year when he told his followers: “Botw2 taking longer than anticipated back during E3 2019, so it doesn’t seem to be this year’s holiday release, which adds more credence to the major title I was referencing on a tweet the other day.

“Neither is set in stone yet so take some salt. The more likely one has… Tires”.

But since this information was shared, the Sabi Twitter account was deactivated, before coming back and confirming that it would not be sharing Nintendo related leaks anymore.

“I’m not posting Nintendo leaks. I will, however, continue this account through journalism and overall community engagement, similar to say, Stealth. I still want to be a useful account for sharing news for you to see,” the Sabi account confirmed.

This will be disappointing news for some Nintendo Switch gamers, who are desperate to hear more about upcoming projects. However, the upside is that they will still be able to rely on the Sabi account to share important gaming news.

Meanwhile, Nintendo might not be far away from sharing an official update with fans.  Another source has suggested that a Nintendo Direct event is being scheduled for mid-March 2020.

This was also linked to a new Nintendo Direct being held this month, which turned out to be true and focused on Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

And it certainly sounds like Nintendo has plenty to share about its plans for 2002. Ever since the Switch came out in 2017, there have been plenty of exclusive games released for the hit hybrid console.

But this year only two exclusive games are confirmed as releasing on the Switch – Animal Crossing New Horizons and the Xenoblade Chronicles remake.

Fans have been left wondering if Ninty has a few games up its sleeve that are coming to the Switch in 2020 which they have not yet announced.

Whatever is or isn’t revealed in early 2020, the hype surrounding Breath of the Wild 2 is sure to endure among Nintendo Switch gamers.

If no new Nintendo Direct is announced in the coming month then the next big event will be E3 2020.

The Japanese games giant’s attendance has been confirmed and that means that a big conference could be in the offing.

That would be the perfect platform to share news regarding Zelda Breath of the Wild 2, and it would also suggest that the game won’t be ready to hit shelves later this year.

The next Zelda game will be a huge part of Nintendo’s plans to sell more Switch consoles in the future.

But as pointed out by Seeking Alpha, Nintendo’s over-reliance on Switch sales is always under consideration from market analysts.

“For every Wii, Nintendo DS or GameBoy, there is a GameCube or Wii U that has a significant negative impact on revenue and net income,” the Seeking Alpha report explains.

“An over-reliance on its gaming consoles have meant that Nintendo has yet to hit the revenue it earned in 2009 from the success of its 2006 launch of the Wii (as seen below).

“The hit and miss cyclical nature of Nintendo is particularly problematic as Nintendo Switch sales should be hitting its peak right around now (2020) and will face stiff competition from the launch of the PS5 and new Xbox.

“Current revenue is heavily skewed towards revenue from dedicated gaming consoles (Switch and to a much lesser extent 3DS).

“This made up 96.2% of 9-month trailing revenue for 2019 which isn’t much different from the previous year where it consisted of 96.5% of total revenue.

“Hence, it is clear from its heavy dependence on its gaming consoles, that any flop post Switch would have a significant detrimental effect on future revenues.”
