Even though Gigi Hadid is one of the world’s most successful fashion models, not everyone has supported her career from the beginning. In a new interview with i-D Magazine, Gigi shared that around half-a-decade ago, she was told that she didn’t have the proper body to walk the runway.
Fans of the model know she was first cast to walk the runway by Jean Paul Gaultier. Hadid stated at that point, she was just coming out of high school and she still had her “volleyball body.” She loved it, but not everybody in the fashion scene did.
According to Gigi, people were hard on her for the body she had on account of her athletics, stating that she didn’t have the “runway body” that was necessary for the scene. The model claims Gaultier put her in an outfit that was very revealing, which was essentially the first time a designer believed in her.
Jean-Paul Gaultier has done that for many others as well, the model explained. Fans of Gigi know that her body is often the subject of concern among social media users, including back in February 2018 when people online took issue with the way she looked.
Later, Gigi revealed she was actually battling against autoimmune disease, and that was the reason for her body transformation. Gigi shared on her social media account that she was recently diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease.
The model claimed people online were witnessing her body with additional inflammation and water retention, which wasn’t her usual state. Hadid went on to claim that while her body might not be up to everyone’s standards, she feels great about herself today.

In January of this year, Hadid worked with Jean-Paul Gaultier again for his Paris catwalk. Reportedly, it was Jean Paul’s last show at the fashion house. In other news, reports have claimed that Gigi has actually started dating her former flame again, the ex-One Directioner, Zayn Malik, who seemingly fell off the map after he and Gigi split up.
