Snag is in shape to the tune of £24 million with tights for all women

Unlike many others Snag’s tights are designed for everywoman, females of all shapes and sizes and the Edinburgh-based retailer has sold more than 1,500,000 pairs with its 80 and 50 dernier black ones the most popular.

Born out of meals service entrepreneur Brie Read’s own struggle to buy a pair that fitted properly her inquiries found mainstream, traditional ones vary in height but not width.

Snag’s range from size four to 36 and are based on waist and dress size as well as body contour.

“But many women have to battle tights that dig in, fall down, pill or bag round the knees,” Read says.

“I realised I was not alone and there was a big need. There is a real hunger among our customers for size inclusive and body positive brands that communicate authentically with them. We have made the community, our Snagglers, the face of all our advertising.”

Meeting demand for the products has been the biggest challenge so far for the products, made in Italy and now distributed from Snag’s own hub in Livingston.

Global tights market is worth some £30 billion and the brand has recently expanded to Australia, Germany and the US.

Snag, which employs 50 people, also offers chub shorts (which prevent thigh chafing), and is aiming to make its range, that is already vegan, either recyclable or biodegradable by October.
