Fortnite Season 12 release: Epic reveal big update coming during Chapter 2 countdown

Epic Games may have tweaked the format of how they describe the seasonal changes, but for many gamers, tomorrow will see the release of Fortnite Season 12. With the launch of the new map last year, Epic started a new era in the game and now refers to it as Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2. It’s a little bit more complicated, but it means the same thing; a big update is coming to Fortnite Battle Royale.

WHEN IS FORTNITE SEASON 12 COMING OUT?

Epic Games has confirmed that Fortnite Season 12 is coming out on Thursday, February 20, 2020.

This will include a new update that will need to be installed before Fortnite Season 12 can start on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Switch and Mobile.

And the good news is that we know when the new Fortnite Season 12 release process will begin.

Epic Games has confirmed that server downtime will be required during the launch of Fortnite Season 12.

This will mean taking the game offline and during this maintenance period, no one will get to play.

The process is expected to last at least an hour, if not longer, and will end with the release of Fortnite patch 12.00.

This will be available to download on all platforms and will likely launch alongside detailed patch notes and Battle Pass news.

It should also be pointed out that Epic Games will be referring to this update as Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2, not Season 12.

Downtime is scheduled to start at around 9 am GMT in the UK, or 4 am ET if you live in the United States.

A message from Epic Games explains: “Get ready to be activated. The countdown to Chapter 2 – Season 2 has begun: Downtime scheduled to start at 4 am ET (0900 UTC).”

Epic Games remains tight-lipped on its plans for Fortnite Season 12, but it appears that there will be plenty of map changes.

New locations have been teased, and it appears these events will be tied to the ALTER organisation. An oil rig POI is expected to pop up as part of the new Fortnite update, although these changes have only been hinted at so far.

Epic Games won’t officially confirm the significant changes until tomorrow, February 20, 2020. The development has confirmed that with the launch of the new 12.00 patch, Epic Games has made tweaks to the Team Rumble Mode.

Writing on Twitter, the team revealed: “With the new season coming tomorrow, we have made a few changes to Team Rumble.

“All weapons blue or better, Bandages removed, Glider redeployment now a free ability (doesn’t take a slot), 150/150/150 mats granted at match start, Skill-based matchmaking turned off, and Increased elim goal to 125.”

Epic Games has also confirmed that a new emote muting options are being added to Fortnite Battle Royale on PC.

This new feature will be rolling out to other platforms during Season 12, but it appears it will only be available on PC for the time being.

“PC Players: In the 12.00 update, we’ve added the ability to mute Licensed Emote Audio. This option is available in the game’s Audio settings,” the message from Epic Games adds.

“We also intend to bring this Audio setting to other platforms in future updates. We will update everyone when that happens.”
