Simon Rimmer: Sunday Brunch host in awkward on-air moment with guest: ‘You can leave now’

Sunday Brunch hosts Simon Rimmer, 56, and Tim Lovejoy, 51, were introducing the show’s special guests today, which included singers Nadine Coyle, 34 and Anne-Marie, 34, TV chef Rick Stein, 73, and actor Ben-Bailey Smith, 42. It was in this moment that Tim cheekily took aim at his guest as he asked him to leave.

Tim asked the rapper turned author: “You’ve been writing books?”

To which Ben replied: “Yes,” before adding he hadn’t got much work done the day before.

The Sunday Brunch host quizzed: “Did you get much work done yesterday?”

“No,” the small-screen star replied. “I tend to not work on the weekends because of my kids. They get angry if I lock myself away at the computer.”

Despite the cheeky on-air mishap, it appeared all was well in the Sunday Brunch studios, as Ben later prepared a mince dish with Simon on the programme.

Elsewhere, the TV chef’s voice appears to have recovered after he recently underwent a painful throat operation.

The small-screen star had a cyst removed from his throat after he suffered a noticeably “croaky voice” of late.

Simon revealed he had to go on vocal rest as a form of recovery, following the surgery.

In view of his 266,000 Twitter followers, the TV chef held up a piece of paper, which read: “I’ve had an operation on my throat. I’m not allowed to talk.”

The wording continued: “Will have to write everything down. Sorry.”

Alongside the picture, the restauranteur explained: “Day 1 of no talking. Gonna make a few signs for the replies to most likely asked questions.”

Sunday Brunch airs every Sunday on Channel 4 at 9.30am.
