Ardal’s character Jack said goodbye not just to his friends but to the island companion too.
Viewers have seen a number of detectives over the years starting with the murdered DI Richard Poole who was replaced by Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and now DI Neville.
Ardal has spoken out about the difficulties and obstacles the crew faced when filming the show ahead of his exit.
Hel told Radio Times: “Four summers, 24 episodes and at least 24 murders. Most of which I solved with very little help from anybody else.
“I told Ralf all the cool restaurants to go to, but the only real advice I could give him, other than preparation, is stay cool, literally and metaphorically, when things go wrong. Because they will go wrong.”
