Storm Ciara flight chaos: Are passengers owed money if flights are cancelled or delayed?

She said: “If your flight is set to go ahead as planned, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport.

“If you’re getting there by train, be aware the rail network is due to operate reduced services tomorrow (Sunday), with speed restrictions in place. Check online with your rail company for details of any delays and cancellations.”

Indeed, many train lines have also cancelled services which could cause problems for passengers using public transport on the way to the airport.

The Gatwick Express, Grand Central, Great Northern, Hull Trains, LNER, Northern, Southeastern, Southern, Thameslink and TransPennine Express. have all issued “do not travel” warnings.

Other affected lines include Avanti West Coast, c2c, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway, Greater Anglia, Heathrow Express, Hull Trains, Island Line, London Northwestern Railway, London Overground, Merseyrail, Northern, ScotRail, South Western Railway, Stansted Express, TfL Rail, Transport for Wales and West Midlands Railway.
