Thailand mass shooting: Soldier ‘opens fire near shopping centre’ – many feared dead

Footage shared on social media shows people running for cover as shots are heard. Local media reported multiple casualties in the shooting at the Terminal 21 shopping centre in the city of Nakhon Ratchasima.

The soldier stole a vehicle from his barracks before attacking people with an assault rifle, according to police.

A police spokesperson said: “The gunman used a machine gun and shot innocent victims resulting in many injured and dead.”

The soldier, who has been posting sick videos online, is believed to have taken hostages in the shopping centre.

The incident is still ongoing.

A British expat wrote on Twitter: “A 2km radius around Terminal 21 in Khorat city has been put in lockdown after a soldier went on a shooting rampage. Local media are reporting multiple deaths. This is ongoing.”

The city of Nakhon Ratchasima, north-east of Bangkok, is also known as Korat.
