Melania Trump savaged on social media over children’s hospital tweet

The First Lady’s Be Best campaign promotes public awareness of youth well-being, including advocating against cyberbullying and drug use. Melania, as part of her agenda to support families affected by the opioid crisis, visited Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where she posed for pictures with children born with Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome. On her FLOTUS Twitter account, Melania claimed her work was “a shining example of the leadership” but critics were quick to give their opinion.

One said: “Now about those kids in cages Mel. #BeBest”

Another replied: “ You don’t really care, do you”

A third observed: “ And now your husband is taking away food stamps from the kids who need it the most #BeBest”

Melania’s imitative, which aims to put promote healthy living, encouragement and kindness, has faced criticism before.

There have been allegations that the ‘Be Best’ campaign slogan is lifted from Michelle Obama’s “Be better” line of advice to men, from the 2016 White House United State of Women summit.

Furthermore, it has been claimed that there are direct similarities in messaging between the Be Best pamphlet to one produced by the Obama administration.

In 2018 a Trump spokesperson issued a statement to defend Melania from “opposition media” over the scheme.

Trump has been widely criticised for his policy that separates some migrant children from their parents.

At a Texas facility known as Ursula, the Associated Press reported: “One cage had 20 children inside. Scattered about as bottles of water, bags of crisps and large foil sheets intended to serve as blankets.”

Inside Ursula as many as 1,100 illegal immigrants wait to be processed.

They have been separated into three wings: unaccompanied children, lone adults and parents with their children.

Melania was widely condemned on social media for her visit to a migrant child detention centre back in 2018 when she wore a jacket that said: “I really don’t care do you.”

Although Trump aides claimed it was “just a jacket” it angered voters enough to force Melania to release a statement where she acknowledged that the jacket contained a message.

“It’s obvious I didn’t wear the jacket for the children, I wore the jacket to go on the plane and off the plane,” she said.

“It was for the people and for the left-wing media who are criticising me. I want to show them I don’t care.

“You could criticise whatever you want to say. But it will not stop me to do what I feel is right.”
