In season six of OITNB, Red convinced Freida not to take her own life and worked to get her transferred to B-block, also known as ‘Florida’ where many of the elderly and mentally vulnerable inmates were being held.
Freida then betrayed Red by telling the investigators about her involvement in the season five prison riots.
She also blamed Red for uncovering the bunker during the riots when it was Freida who had led them there.
As a result, Red received more prison time and was unable to be reunited with her grandson.
Frieda and Red were brought back together in season seven after Red was transferred to B-Bloc after being diagnosed with dementia.
