NCIS season 17: Who killed La Grenouille in NCIS?

In season four, NCIS fans were first introduced to René Benoit (Armand Assante), better known as arms dealer La Grenouille but it was in the following season where he finally got his comeuppance. So who murdered La Grenouille in Bury Your Dead? Here’s everything you need to know about the death of one of NCIS’ greatest villains.

Agent Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly) was working undercover, trying to investigate La Grenouille by dating his daughter Jeanne Woods (Scottie Thompson).

However, in season five the arms dealer finds out his real identity and attempts to assassinate him by blowing up his car.

Thankfully, Dinozzo wasn’t in the vehicle at the time but knew La Grenouille was now onto him and was now in danger.

But he isn’t the only one the villain had unfinished business with in NCIS.

Years ago, La Grenouille killed Director Jenny Shepard’s (Lauren Holly) father Colonel Jasper Shard and she has been trying to hunt him down ever since.

Finally, she was going to get her way as her arch nemesis calls her at home and says he wants to meet as it is long overdue.

She agrees and asks him where and when but when she turns around, he is standing there in front of her in Shepard’s study.

He sinisterly says: “Hello Jenny”, and fans are left wondering what is going to happen next.

Who killed La Grenouille in NCIS?

Agent Trent Kort is arrested in the following episode and admits he murdered La Grenouille, having taken Shepard’s gun from the arms dealer to shoot him with.

According to the CIA agent, it was a sanctioned assassination and the killing had to be carried out.

But the show continued to strongly suggest this wasn’t the truth and it was actually Director Shepard who committed murder.

Agent Gibbs has a flashback moment remembering La Grenouille putting down the gun Shepard had given him back on the table in her study.

So she would have been the only one to have access to that gun prior to La Grenouille’s death.
