Slade, the iconic rock band responsible for some of the biggest hits in the UK, have split up after 53 years together.
Drummer Don Powell shared the news on his website Monday, stating that guitarist Dave Hill had axed him from the band via an email.
Hill was the only original member of the band, and had been friends with Powell since the 1960s.
A statement on Powell’s website said: “It is with great sadness and regret that Don needs to inform his fans that he now is no longer a member of Dave Hill’s Slade.
“Dave has sent Don a cold email to inform him that his services are no longer required, after working together and being friends since 1963.”
Hill then responded to the statement however, refuting the claims Powell had made.
“Our parting of the ways has not come out of the blue and his announcement is not accurate,” he said.
Powell announced he will be touring with his band, now called Don Powell’s Slade, and will be beginning new projects.

“It really saddens me that the four guys who were in Slade [Holder, Dave Hill, Jim Lea and Don Powell] can’t get together now and sit round the dinner table,” he lamented to the publication.
“Five years ago I got the four of us together so we could air our grievances face-to-face.
“But it was so painful I’d never want to repeat it.
“I was shocked,” the star added.
Slade, who are also famous for their other chart-topping hits Run Runaway, Far Far Away and My Oh My, are an English rock band who first formed in Wolverhampton.
They shot to fame in the early 1970s, and racked up 17 consecutive top 20 songs.
They also achieved six number ones on the UK Singles Chart.
