Flights: Here’s how you can save £100 on Ryanair flights

Ryanair is known for its affordable flights to a variety of locations, with fares as low as £9.99. However, additional add ons from luggage to priority boarding can make that cheap flight seem costly.

However, Money Saving Expert has said there is a way for families to save money on those little extras – and this is primarily due to when you’re booking your flights.

Families of four could save up to £100 when booking seat reservations, cabin bags and priority boarding.

This is because when you book flights, Ryanair offers a choice between a Regular or a Value fare.

The Regular fare, which is £20.85 per person per flight, allows you to reserve a seat, get priority boarding and have two cabin bags.

However, Money Saving Expert explained: “We’ve found that opting for the ‘Value’ fare instead, then manually adding seat reservations, cabin bags and priority boarding, can often slash the cost.

Budget airlines, though boasting impressive seat prices, are often some of the worst when it comes to baggage restrictions.

However, savvy passengers are increasingly coming up with ways to beat these hand luggage rules while still packing everything they need.

On a Reddit forum dedicated to hand luggage travel tips, one passenger revealed their devious discovery.

The passenger revealed that online check-in could be a traveller’s best friend, particularly if they are flying with just one bag.

“Airlines generally only weigh your carry-on at the check-in counter,” pointed out the traveller.

“If you’re carry-on only and check-in online then you can just go straight to the gate and avoid it.”

For holidaymakers less keen on breaking the rules, there are plenty of other tricks to try.

One passenger discovered that by trying a unique and somewhat bizarre packing method they were able to squeeze more items in their suitcase.

They explained: “I lay the first item on the bed or floor.

“Then I lay the next item rotated 90 degrees on top of that.

“I keep rotating 90 degrees and layering until I have everything in a pile. I finish with my underwear and socks on top in the middle.

“Then I fold all four corners and shove it in my suitcase.

“I packed this way for my first trip to Europe and was able to pack 5 days worth of clothing, two pair of shoes, non-liquid make-up and toiletries (travel size) in an international-sized carry-on.”

The frequent flier added: “I thought it sounded idiotic when I read it, but it worked for me.”: “I stopped rolling and folding, and my clothes are less wrinkled when I arrive and I can carry more in the same space.

“I can also pack for a week in just a few minutes.”
