Melania Trump embarrassment: FLOTUS forced to raise funds for Donald's reelection bid

The first of the fundraisers is set to take place on March 18 in Beverly Hills followed by a March 25 event at the Mar-a-Lago club in Florida. Proceeds from the events will be to benefit Trump Victory (a joint fundraising account for the Trump 2020 campaign) and the Republican National Committee. The president is a regular on the donor circuit, but Melania is a newcomer to the political fundraiser scene.

Before the 2018 midterm elections, the first lady sent out a fundraising appeal defending her husband.

“Democrats and the opposition media are doing everything they possibly can to discredit Donald with false accusations by spreading their fake news and making it appear that he does not have the support of America’s voter,” she wrote in the message.

Republican officials see Melania Trump as a great way to get big donors in, as it provides an opportunity to connect with the president’s family.

Donald Trump Jr, the president’s son, is a frequent guest at donor events, as is Trump’s son-in-law and senior advisor, Jared Kushner.

So far the Trump re-election effort has profited handsomely, raising $463 million in 2019 and is now almost at $200 million.

It comes as the President was criticised during the Super Bowl half-time performance after his wife Melania was seen wearing the American flag colours as she attended a special party in honour of the US flagship game.

The First Lady wore a knee skimming dress that had patriotic hues, including a white base that featured navy and red stripes paired with very glamorous stilettos.

Meanwhile, the President stuck to his preferred uniform of a dark suit with a red necktie and American flag pin.

Trump has been widely criticised for his US policy that separates migrant children from their parents.

At a Texas facility known as Ursula, the Associated Press reported: “One cage had 20 children inside. Scattered about as bottles of water, bags of crisps and large foil sheets intended to serve as blankets.”

Inside Ursula, often more than 1,100 illegal immigrants wait to be processed. They have been separated into three wings: unaccompanied children, lone adults and parents with their children.
