Brexit supporter is selling this number plate for a massive £4,000 price tag

One Brexit backing motorist is aiming to sell a number plate for over £4,000 in a bid to make over ten times the amount of money he initially paid for the design. After spending £400 on the design “UK20 OUT”, Shaun Craigie now plans to sell his plate for thousands through an auction.

The DVLA is also selling a series of plates ending with “BRX” as prices soaring on the historic names.

“F1 BRX” has hit the DVLA website for £1,299 while “G1 BRX” has a price tag of £999.

In a statement, a spokesperson for National Numbers said: “If you aren’t buying a new vehicle in 2020, these plates also make a great collector’s item to hold on a certificate which you can do immediately.

“With the added option of being able to add one to your new car once we leave the EU, the 20 plate series offers up lots of possibilities for those on both sides.”

Plates can also be purchased through the DVLA but these may only be placed on a car which has been registered after 1 March 2020.

Putting your new 20 number plate on an older vehicle is not allowed as it could confuse motorists on how old the vehicle actually is.

This could leave motorists paying more for cars than they should do thinking they are getting a better quality car.

However, personalised plates can be held for ten years meaning motorists can install the plate if they purchase a vehicle registered after 2020 over the next decade.

Personalised number plates are big business for the DVLA with around £111million in revenue generated in 2017 alone.

A total of £1.8billion of revenue has been generated on personalised plates alone since 1989.
