Man Utd determined to beat Chelsea and Real Madrid to £90m Kalidou Koulibaly transfer

Manchester United are hell-bent on signing Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly in the summer transfer window. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is convinced the 28-year-old is the perfect partner for Harry Maguire in his backline.

United have spent the last 12 months targeting Koulibaly and Ed Woodward still regards him as the top defensive priority.

The Red Devils will step up their efforts to sign the Senegal international as soon as the summer transfer window opens.

Koulibaly is open to the idea of a switch to the Premier League and is aware of United’s interest, according to the Daily Star.

United could face competition from Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain for his signature though.

Fernandes made his debut for United on Saturday in the 0-0 stalemate with Wolves in the Premier League and after the match Solskjaer gave his verdict on the performance.

He said: “It was a game as you expected really. We dominated the game, had loads of possession, they gave us problems on counter attacks and set plays.

“We’ve played so many games in the past few months the players are down to the barebones, energy levels are down and the need a break.

“We got Bruno deeper on the ball for us. I felt we controlled the first half as well.

“In the second half we threatened a little bit more. I feel the ground staff must have moved the goal slightly to the right!

“Bruno is a top player. It’s the first game. First half everyone was getting the ball into feet and Bruno is one of those who, when he gets into feet, he wants players moving in front of him and we didn’t.

“He’ll be a top addition.”

United now go on their winter break and are not in action until the Premier League showdown with Chelsea on Monday, February 17.
