Google Maps StreetView: Scary sea creature spotted terrorising beachgoers in California

Google Maps Street View emerged onto the internet in 2007 and created an online service which allows users to explore far-flung corners of the globe at street level. While the 3D virtual world is great for getting an insight into an upcoming holiday destination, or finding a new route to work, it is also increasingly being used to discover some of the hidden parts of planet Earth.

With its arms raised in a menacing fashion, the creature is running along the cycle path.

What is more bizarre, though, is that the creature doesn’t seem to be getting all that much attention.

Though one man, wearing a blue backpack, has turned his head to take in the odd scene unfolding in front of him, he doesn’t seem too concerned.

Meanwhile, families enjoying picnics or a stroll along the sand haven’t even seemed to notice.

Or maybe the prank was planned in advance in a bid to create a humorous scene for the Google camera.

Though little is known about the context of the image, it certainly adds an element of surprise to this seaside scene.

A similar incident happened in Victoria, Canada, when a local adopted a fake horse head mask.

As the Google camera drove by, the resident had set up a hilarious scene, making it appear as though a mystical creature was sat at the side of the road.
