Man Utd transfer news LIVE: Bruno Fernandes to complete move today, second signing eyed

Why Man Utd decided to go all out for Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Fernandes’ move to Manchester United from Sporting Lisbon is on the verge of completion. And Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reasoning for going for the Portugal international has now been explained.

BBC Sport report that United believe Fernandes has improved in three areas ahead of his imminent move to Old Trafford.

They are said to believe he’s become more mature and influential.

And United also think Fernandes is now tactically astute enough to make the move to the Premier League.

Writing on his Twitter account, BBC reporter Simon Stone said: “Re Fernandes. @ManUtd have been monitoring him since 2015.

“Distanced themselves from player last summer as they decided to prioritise other areas.

“Fernandes assesses (sic) closely this season and feel he has improved, become more mature and influential and is now tactically astute.”

Bruno Fernandes to join today

Bruno Fernandes will complete his move to Manchester United today.

It’s understood the Sporting Lisbon attacking midfielder will jet to Manchester today to undergo his medical at United’s AON Training Complex.

The Portugal international will sign a four-and-a-half-year deal at Old Trafford.

United will pay an initial £46.6million, with two possible add-on payments of £8.5m and £12.7m.

Man Utd eyeing next deal after Bruno Fernandes

Manchester United are hoping to accompany the imminent signing of Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes with a striker swoop.

The Red Devils are on the verge of signing the Portugal international after weeks of intense speculation.

And the Telegraph say United are now hoping to sign a striker late in the day.

The Red Devils are short on firepower in the wake of Marcus Rashford’s back injury, with the player set to miss the next three months through injury.

£118million striker plan

Manchester United have made £118million Valencia striker Maxi Gomez a top transfer target for the summer, it’s been claimed.

However, a potential deal rests on whether executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward decides to hire a sporting director at Old Trafford.

According to Cadena Ser in Spain, United have now set their sights on a new striking priority.

United are now looking at Maxi Gomez, whose release clause is a huge £118m.

His contract isn’t up until the 2024 season but United want to sign him this summer – even if it means paying such a huge amount.

The report also states that the deal hinges on whether United chief Woodward decides to hire a sporting director between now and the summer.
