Fortnite update PATCH NOTES: Download surprise new NFL and Zipline update NOW

Fortnite developer Epic Games has released a brand new update on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PC, iOS and Android.

The surprise new Fortnite 11.40.3 update is great news for NFL fans, because it features new style variants for the American Football skins.

This coincides with the 2020 Super Bowl, which takes place later this week. The 54th Super Bowl will be contested between San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs, so expect more Fortnite tie-ins over the weekend.

According to the early patch notes, there’s also a brand new emote ‘Freemix’ emote for players to nab, while Ziplines have also been re-enabled.

“We’ve released a maintenance patch for all platforms that addresses some known issues,” reads an Epic post.

Despite the lack of big new features, the update weighs in at nearly 1BG on some platforms. The size of the update may also have something to do with the return of ziplines, which come back sooner than expected.

“With the release of the January 29, 2020 maintenance patch, we’ve re-enabled Ziplines a bit earlier than our next update,” Epic explains.

It’s also possible the update is laying the groundwork for the season-ending 11.50 update, which makes some pretty major changes.

The upcoming Fortnite update will launch at some point in early February, most likely on Tuesday, Feb 4.

Update 11.50 will usher in the move to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics system, which should transform the way the game looks and feels.

“Beginning with the release of the 11.50 update in early February, Fortnite will be moving to Unreal Engine’s Chaos physics system,” Epic recently explained.

“At launch, the goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite. Along the way there will be some bumps, so we’re starting tests with a small group of players. We’ll also closely monitor feedback and make improvements over time.

“With the addition of the 11.50 update, Chapter 2 – Season 2 is now expected to launch Thursday, February 20. Chapter 2 – Season 2 will feature with multiple . We can’t brief you on all of next Season’s secrets just yet…”

The update is also expected to coincide with the release of the rumoured Birds of Prey event.

The rumours started when Warner Bros posted a tweet of the Birds of Prey cast, captioned: “Name a better flock. We’ll wait.”

Responding to the tweet, the official Fortnite account said: “See you soon Harley ;)”

This seems like pretty conclusive proof that Epic will once again team with Warner Bros and DC for an in-game event.
