Our Girl season 4: Jacqueline Jossa to replace Michelle Keegan in lead role?

Our Girl, a military based drama, has seen it’s fair share of lead actresses come and go and now another is on the cars. The role began with Lacey Turner as the lead actress who played Molly Dawes, which was then taken over by Michelle Keegan in 2013.

Michelle played the new lead Lance Corporal Georgie Lane, but announced her departure from the show after four years in order to spend more time in the UK with her family.

But now the ex-Corrie actress has stepped down from the role, The Sun have reported that Jacqueline Jossa could be in the running to take over next.

Jacqueline, who played Lauren Branning in EastEnders from 2010 to 2018, is apparently “in advanced talks” for the role, which would make her the third soap actress to star as the protagonist in the BBC One drama.

A TV source told the publication: “Jacqueline is keen to replace Michelle on Our Girl and has been encouraged to go for it by her former colleague and pal Lacey.

“And bosses at the Beeb want a mainstream signing and feel the Queen Of The Jungle fits the bill perfectly.

“The series hasn’t yet been greenlit, nor any contracts signed, but she’s in a good position to bag it if it all goes ahead.”

Michelle’s fourth and final outing as British Army medic Georgie has been filmed and will air later this year.

She said of the show: “I’ve had the most incredible four years on the show and I want to thank the BBC for giving me such an amazing opportunity.”

The 27-year-old weighed up her options about a possible return to the soap where she rose to fame, but admitted “it’d have to be the right time” for it to happen.

Speaking to The Daily Star, she said: “I think time would have to be right for EastEnders.

“The time isn’t right for me yet. It’s too soon, I think, to be honest.”

But the Mirror reported a source close to the actress added that “a lot of projects, both screen and stage, have been keen to discuss [with her]” various opportunities.

Michelle’s exit comes as she and husband Mark intend to spend more time together.

Their busy work schedules meant they endured long distance for most of their relationship in order to focus on their respective careers.

In a recent discussion on his Heart radio show, the Essex heart-throb revealed he felt “sad and lonely” while in Hollywood “chasing the money” as a presenter on Extra TV.

The pair have just come back from a lavish vacation in Jamaica, where they documented their envious snaps on social media.
