Coronation Street star Katie McGlynn took home the award for best serial drama performance for her turn as cancer sufferer Sinead Tinker at the NTAs tonight. She thanked the “big bosses” at Coronation Street, before paying tribute to her late grandfather.
The soap star had to fight back the tears during her acceptance speech but midway through her speech the actress had to correct the audience.
Katie began: “I want to thank somebody who’s not here tonight. My grandad who passed away has always supported me through acting.
“He took me to all my acting classes.”
As she attempted to continue with her speech, the crowd began to clap for the actress as they assumed she had wrapped up.

While a third person added: “Oh seriously this speech is seriously dragging on now Katie mcglynn – I love you but enough!”
However, other fans were more forgiving of the soap star’s emotional acceptance speech.
One person commented: “In all honesty I don’t watch Corrie usually but Katie McGlynn and Peter Ash are both very talented and have both been given incredibly important and touching storylines this year, no reason why they dont deserve those wins #NTAs.”
Another person said: “You know what Katie McGlynn bl**dy deserves this award because her performance was absolutely breathtaking. She handled an extremely difficult topic with dignity and realism #NTAs.”

The award winner said: “When I was younger, my grandad took me to all my auditions. i go my first TV role and he was like, ‘That’s brilliant Katie.’ I said, ‘Are you happy grandad?’
“He said, ‘Yes, I’m happy with that.’”
Katie continued: “But he asked, ‘When are you going to get on Coronation Street?’
“Sadly he passed away and then literally, no word of a lie, a month later I got the audition for Coronation Street. Seven years later, I’m holding this award and I’m just over the moon.”
She finished: “I can’t tell you how happy I am. But in all seriousness I want to dedicate this award anyone woman who is going through cervical cancer or has had cervical cancer and their families. Stay strong.”
It comes after the Corrie star was embroiled in a harrowing storyline about a cervical cancer patient in the ITV soap.
Meanwhile, the soap star certainly turned heads on the red carpet as she sported a floor length sheer gown.
The sensational frock showed off her the small-screen star’s enviable curves on the big night.
