James Corden breaks silence on REAL reason he snubbed NTAs after big Gavin and Stacey win

Gavin and Stacey writer James Corden, 41, has taken to Twitter to reveal the real reason why he was a no-show at the National Television Awards 2020, held in London this evening. The actor sparked a frenzy when he was noticably absent from tonight’s event, where the show won the Impact Award.

Taking to Twitter, the actor, who is based in America told fans he has a show tomorrow.

He tweeted: “I’m so sorry I couldn’t be there tonight.

“I have a show today and tomorrow. But I am so proud to see the whole cast up there holding this award. Thank you @OfficialNTAs.”

His post prompted many of his fans to comment, with one writing: “Not the same without you.”

Another joked: “Congratulations! We will forgive you if we get more G&S.”(sic)

A third penned: “A very deserved win, congratulations now just waiting for series 4.”

James’ co-writer Ruth Jones made a speech as the cast stood on stage to accept the award.

At first, she put on a Welsh accent to re-enact her character on the show, Nessa.

“Thank you so much for this, thank you to the National Television Awards,” she said aloud as she proudly held the award.

She added: “It is lush and it is tidy and James Corden is so sad that he can’t be here tonight.

“And I am really sad to because he and I have been on a journey that’s lasted for over 15 years with Gavin and Stacey.”

She went on to say: “I wish that he was here tonight to share this, so James, I’m sure you’re watching over in the States.”

Ruth then pointed at the award, adding: “Lovely isn’t it.”

The actress went on to say: “Gavin and Stacey wouldn’t be the success that is has without the talent and the support of so many people who you don’t see on screen.

“I want to particularly thank Baby cow productions who made the show back in 2005 for three series.”

Ruth then added of the recent Christmas special of the show: “I want to thank the BBC because it was a risk after 10 years.”
