Apex Legends Revenant update is big news for Season 4 on PS4 and Xbox One

A big Apex Legends Revenant update was confirmed this week, and it changes everything for the Season 4 launch on PS4 and Xbox One. Having laid out their plans for Season 4 earlier this week via a live stream, Respawn Entertainment confirmed that Forge would be the new Legend coming to the game in February. This led to some confusion among the fanbase who were convinced that Revenant would be the big new expansion character.

But with the team confirming Forge, it seemed all wrapped up ahead of the Season 4 update going live.

But since that original announcement went live, Respawn has pulled off a twisty twist and effectively killed off their new Apex Legends character.

In a new YouTube video posted to the Apex account, it’s revealed that Revenant eliminates Forge before he can ever enter the new arena.

“James “The Forge” McCormick earned his way into the Apex Games by way of the Hyper-Fighting Federation,” the official video description reads.

“With his charm, looks, and signature shiny medallion, he’s been hailed as the “People’s Champion.”

“While some think he’s not ready for the Games, Jimmy’s confident his industrial-mining Shatter Gauntlets will crush any doubts. And with the full backing of Hammond Robotics, Forge is poised to make his mark in the Arena.”

The evil robot assassin is not confirmed as Revenant in the new footage but it seems likely it will be the next character.

Or perhaps not? It’s pretty hard to trust what is going to happen in early February with the release of Season 4 following the latest change.

With Revenant now looking to be the star of Apex Legends Season 4, there’s plenty of time for Respawn to tease out the rest of the story.

There’s still something set to happen to the World’s Edge map and that will probably be linked to what other external threats are being cooked up.

More teaser trailers are expected in the run up to Apex Legends Season 4, which has a release date set for February 4, 2020.

A clue for what might be happening during Season 4 was also provided last week after we learnt its official name will be Assimilation.

It’s a rather robotic word to be using and certainly sounds like a hostile takeover is in the offing.

Fans can also expect the new Sniper Rifle – The Sentinel – to be added alongside the new character and map changes.

Respawn has also revealed its plans for Ranked Play with the launch of Season 4 in February.

“After the 3 months long Ranked Series 1, and the 4 month long Ranked Series 2, we have been looking at engagement on the ranked ladder and have decided to continue with a 3 month series, but divide it into 2 splits,” Respawn confirmed this week.

“This means that Series 3 will have two shorter splits, each with a soft reset. Split 1 will be played on World’s Edge while Split 2 will be back on King’s Canyon to keep things fresh.

“Ranked rewards will be granted for the highest tier achieved in either split of the series, but exclusive animated badges will be granted if you can make it to the same tier both splits.

“The soft reset will stay the same for Season 4. At the start of Series 3, everyone will be soft reset on their ranked position by 1.5 Tiers down.

“That means if you ended Season 3 in Gold II, you’ll be reset to Silver IV. Players in Platinum IV will be reset to Silver II, and Apex Predators will be reset to Platinum II. This reset will now occur at each split as well.”
