Brock Lesnar's WWE WrestleMania opponent revealed after Drew McIntyre wins Royal Rumble

Brock Lesnar looks certain to take on Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania 36 in April after winning the 30-man Royal Rumble on Sunday night.

McIntyre was the last man standing having eliminated the reigning WWE World Heavyweight champion Lesnar in what was an all-time classic.

Lesnar was the voluntary first entry and took out a record-tying 13 opponents, matching Braun Strowman, before being eliminated by McIntyre, who entered the fray at No 16.

The match also saw Edge back in the ring for the first time in nine years, having last fought at WrestleMania 27 in 2011.

The Hall of Famer made the final three but was eliminated by Roman Reigns – much to the annoyance of the crowd inside Houston’s Minute Maid Park.

But The Chosen One McIntyre – once billed a future World Heavyweight Champion by Vince McMahon – defeated Reigns, dropping him with the Claymore before throwing him out, having also Claymore’d Lesnar.

Courtesy of winning the Royal Rumble, the Brit now gets his pick of champions for this year’s WrestleMania.

And having had an intense staredown with The Beast Incarnate, it is expected McIntyre will choose to face off with Lesnar in Tampa, Florida.

Speaking ahead of the Royal Rumble, he said when asked how Brock being the first entry would affect the match: “If I won the Rumble, it’s the same guy I’ve had in mind for years. I’d fight Brock Lesnar in a second.

“A lot of people on the roster genuinely wouldn’t want to get in the ring with him. They are terrified of the idea. I want to get in the ring with him.

“I know we could put on a heck of a spectacle and a fight. There aren’t many who can stand toe-to-toe with me. That’s someone I definitely want.

“He gets this criticism that he doesn’t show up to work all the time and this and that. The way I look at it, he was offered the contract. He signed the contract. It’s not his fault.

“The only problem I have is the title is not on the shows and live events. We need the title back. I have no personal issues with him.

“Who wouldn’t sign that contract? I just want that opportunity to get the title back on Raw because it belongs on the shows and live events.”

The Scottish Psychopath is bidding to become the first ever British world champion and has long held the ambition to make history.

The Ayr-born bruiser McIntyre said to Express Sport last May: “It’s been my goal for 10 years now and looking back I haven’t had one opportunity for the Universal title.

“So the Money in the Bank contract guarantees me that opportunity that I have been waiting my whole life.

“And I’m feeling pretty confident about it.”

Reigns had been the clear favourite heading into the Rumble, where he was expected to win and set up a showdown with Universal Champion The Fiend at WrestleMania.

The two could still go head-to-head for the SmackDown world title, but not in the main event of the night, with McIntyre now taking top billing.

The former NXT Champion, 34, has been wrestling since 2001 is in his second stint in the WWE. McIntyre is a one-time Intercontinental Champion and two-time WWE (Raw) Tag Team Champion.
