Richard commented the van had suddenly stopped and the driver walked into someone’s front garden, “emerging with a smart baby buggy and glancing shiftily around him”.
The columnist took the opportunity to confront the thief, as he rolled down his window and yelled: “Oi! You! What do you think you’re doing?”
Speaking in his column, Richard continued: “He [the thief] stopped and stared at me and said ‘I’m collecting rubbish.’ He looked frightened; I’d definitely got the psychological advantage – for now.”
But he was not letting them off that easily, as he slammed the person in question for stealing.
