Rafael Nadal makes honest Nick Kyrgios admission ahead of potential Australian Open clash

Rafael Nadal cruised to a 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 win over fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta to book his place in the Australian Open fourth round this morning.

The world No 1 will face either Nick Kyrgios or Karen Khachanov on Monday.

And tennis fans are desperate to see world No 30 progress and set up another grudge match with Nadal.

Kyrgios has mocked his rival this week by mimicking his serve and tempers will be tested if they are to clash in the fourth round.

And 19-time Grand Slam Nadal winner will settle down to watch the battle unfold on Melbourne Arena but he is unsure who will come out on top.

“I don’t know. Both players are great players,” Nadal explained. “Nick is always excited to play here at home and Karen has great potential.”

“I will be watching and it will be a great match.”

When pressed on whether he would rather face rival Kyrgios, the 33-year-old said: “I don’t [want to play Kyrgios] but if it goes that way then I will be ready.”

Nadal came through his third-round tie with ease, hardly breaking sweat despite the blistering Melbourne heat.

The hottest day of the tournament brought out Nadal’s best performance as he hunts his 20th Grand Slam title.

“There is nothing new. We know very well what we have to do. Sometimes it goes one way and sometimes the other.

“It is true that when the conditions are a little bit warmer the condition ball bounces higher which helps my game.

“Today I did well with my serve and then I started to hit some good forehands down the line which is a key shot for me.”
