Jonathan Ross sparks confusion after guessing dead star Natalie Cole is The Masked Singer

Jonathan Ross, 59, left The Masked Singer fans confused when he offered his guesses about the identity of Daisy on the ITV show this evening.

Daisy performed a beautiful rendition of Nat King Cole’s song Unforgettable in tonight’s episode, which prompted the panel of detectives to further debate about who the contestant really is.

However, Jonathan’s suggestion that Daisy could be Nat King Cole’s daughter Natalie Cole sparked the biggest reaction from Twitter users, who were quick to point out that it was impossible, as she had sadly passed away.

The American singer-songwriter and This Will Be hitmaker died at the age of 65 due to congestive heart failure in 2015.

Express.co.uk has contacted representatives for Jonathan Ross and The Masked Singer for comment.

Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan also questioned Jonathan’s guess, writing in view of his 7.1 million Twitter followers: “It’s probably not Natalie Cole, given she’s been dead for 4 years.”

One social media user wrote: “Erm, Jonathan Ross just guessed Natalie Cole, who famously and sadly died in 2015. And ITV kept it in. On a show that is pre-recorded. HOW? #TheMaskedSinger.”(sic)

Another added: “I mean Natalie Cole is dead so I highly doubt it’s her…”

A third viewer branded Jonathan’s comment “disrespectful”, tweeting: “Natalie Cole has passed away – I can’t believe no one checked this – this is so disrespectful @wossy.”

A fourth fan commented: “Did Jonathan Ross just wonder if the #MaskedSinger was Natalie Cole? The same Natalie Cole that died a few years ago.”

Jonathan wasn’t the only member of the panel who was baffled by Daisy’s identity, as guest star Donny Osmond admitted it was “driving him crazy”.

He tweeted in view of his 196,000 followers: “Okay everyone, who are your best guesses for #Daisy?

“This is driving me crazy… I know that voice.

@MaskedSingerUK @DavinaMcCall #TheMaskedSinger.”
