Weinstein ‘sent disgusting gift, and then he raped me’

Sopranos actress Annabella Sciorra said the movie mogul had earlier sent a “care package” containing a bottle of Valium after casting her in a film he was producing in the early 1990s.

She told New York’s Manhattan Supreme Court yesterday of her horror at opening the box.

Ms Sciorra said: “I thought it was disgusting and inappropriate.”

The first package contained movies, liquorice, popcorn and Valium, she recalled. She said Weinstein, 67, did so in “an effort to help me relax and not be so stressed”.

Ms Sciorra then told how Weinstein had raped her before warning her weeks later to keep her mouth shut.

She said he had appeared at her apartment after the two said goodnight following dinner at a restaurant in the winter of 1993-94.

The actress said: “There was a knock at the door. The defendant was there, and he pushed the door open.”

Once inside, Weinstein began to take off his shirt. The tycoon ignored Ms Sciorra’s pleas to leave, she said, and soon realised he expected to have sex with her.

She punched and kicked but couldn’t fight Weinstein off, she said. Ms Sciorra added: “I felt overpowered because he was very big.

“He grabbed me, and he led me into the bedroom, and he shoved me on the bed. I was just trying to get away from him, and he put my hands over my head to hold me back, and he got on top of me, and he raped me.”

Weinstein then performed oral sex on the actress. She said: “It was just so disgusting that my body started to shake. It was like a seizure.”

Afterwards Weinstein simply walked out of the apartment, the court heard.

The two spoke about the night of the alleged rape when they crossed paths weeks later. She said: “I told him that I blacked out. And he said, ‘That’s what all the nice Catholic girls say.’ Then he leaned into me and said, ‘This remains between you and I.’ It was very menacing.”

Weinstein denies all allegations. The trial is set to last six weeks.
