Man Utd put Odion Ighalo and Islam Slimani on shock transfer list as desperation increases

Manchester United have registered a shock interest in signing Islam Slimani and Odion Ighalo on loan this month.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on bringing in a striker this month on loan following injury to Marcus Rashford.

But now according to Sky Sports, United have made shock approaches for the two former Premier League players.

The club had made Erling Braut Haaland one of their top targets ahead of January, but a deal broke down because of doubts surrounding the structure of the deal.

Now United are looking for quick fixes to keep their hopes of a top four finish alive.

The club are facing competition for Slimani though, who is currently on loan at Monaco.

He has scored seven goals in 13 Ligue 1 matches this season, which has reminded several clubs of his goalscoring pedigree.

That includes Aston Villa and Tottenham, who are said to be among those interested.

Meanwhile, Ighalo has been plying his trade in China with Shanghai Shenhua and has proved a real hit in the league since moving to Changchun Yatai from Watford in 2017.

United have been forced to change their transfer plans after losing Rashford for up to three months.

He has suffered a double stress fracture in his back and also requires surgery to remove a piece of floating bone in his foot.

Speaking after the 2-0 defeat at Liverpool last Sunday, Solskjaer hinted that he would explore temporary solutions in the loan market.

“It’s just an unfortunate situation we are in,” he told Sky Sports.

“It might be because the window is open, that we look at some short-term options.

“That could take us through to the summer.”

The United boss was then asked whether the club would look to sign a striker.

“Not desperately [in need of a striker], of course we are looking at numbers as well,” he added.

“That’s because we’ve had many injuries, if the right one is there and it will fit for us then we can buy it.

“If there are loans available then we might look at it.”
