Coronation Street’s Geoff Metcalfe (played by Ian Bartholomew) has systematically taken control of every aspect of Yasmeen Nazir’s (Shelley King) life on the ITV soap and yet she remains in the dark about how abusive her husband really is. From taking control of her finances to convincing the Speed Daal chef she’s an alcoholic, Geoff has done everything in his power to manipulate Yasmeen and make her reliant on him.
However, after a brief conversation with granddaughter Alya Nazir (Sair Khan), Yasmeen may have dropped a huge hint about Geoff’’s behaviour.
In tonight’s (January 24) first instalment of the ITV’s soap double-bill, Yasmeen ran into Alya after popping to the shops after work.
Alya made it clear she wanted to see more of her grandmother but Yasmeen dismissed her wishes before promising she would spend more time with her soon.
But did Yasmeen leave a secret clue which could help Alya figure out the abuse her grandmother has been suffering?
Stopping Yasmeen in the street, Alya said: “Hey gran, have you finished already?”
“Yes, I need to get home and get the supper on,” Yasmeen explained.
“Well, I was going to come see you later…” Alya suggested.
But Yasmeen responded: “I don’t feel so good I may just get an early night, some other time.”
“Gran, come on. I never see you these days. Is he keeping you prisoner or something?”A lya remarked.
Unbeknownst to Yasmeen, this is exactly what Geoff has been doing but the Speed Daal chef denies her husband is at fault.
“No I promise I’ll make more of an effort, soon,” Yasmeen said.
Despite the denial, Yasmeen didn’t seem too surprised by Alya’s shock claim and the Bistro chef may think about this exchange later on and analyse her grandmother’s reaction.
Meanwhile, could Yasmeen’s promise to “make more of an effort, soon” imply she realises something isn’t quite right in her marriage?
When she said goodbye to Alya, Yasmeen received an angry call from Geoff where he berated her for being late.
“Yeah I’m nearly home I just nipped to the shops after work,” Yasmeen could be heard saying to Geoff.
Clearly annoyed with Yasmeen taking longer than he expected, Yasmeen replied: “Well we needed some bits.”
