Man Utd make final Bruno Fernandes transfer offer with Edinson Cavani decision imminent

United have few options with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay out injured.

Fernandes was the top target for the Red Devils with the 25-year-old in sensational form for Sporting this season.

He has netted 15 goals and provided 14 assists for his team-mates in all competitions.

Talks between United and Sporting over Fernandes are at a stalemate though with both clubs a long way apart in their valuation of the midfielder.

The England international has suffered a double stress fracture to the back and will not be available to the Red Devils.

United are still weighing up whether they want to make a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani.

The 32-year-old wants a contract until the summer of 2022 on wages of £200,000-a-week after tax which is a big factor the Red Devils are evaluating.

The need for reinforcements has become clear following the abject 2-0 defeat to Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday.

“Some of the results and performances we’ve had have been fantastic.

“Today, that’s the second defeat at home, the first since August, and I’d thought we’d turned that corner winning games like this, but we haven’t clearly and we will keep chipping away.”

United return to action on Sunday when they take on Tranmere or Watford in the FA Cup fourth round (3pm).
