The Victoria Derbyshire Show cancelled by the BBC as costs were 'deemed too high'

The Victoria Derbyshire Show is to be cancelled after five years due to costs which were “deemed too high”, the broadcaster’s media editor has said. The show which is hosted by award-winning journalist Victoria Derbyshire first aired in 2015 but would no longer share a space on BBC Two’s schedule. Media Editor at BBC News Amol Rajan posted the news earlier today explaining why the BBC have made the decision.

Amol, who also presents shows on BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 2, broke the news on Twitter earlier today.

He tweeted: “The Victoria Derbyshire Show is coming off air. I understand @BBCNews is committed to Victoria and the (award-winning) journalism of the show.

“Cost of doing it on linear channel when savings are needed deemed too high.

“BBC declined to comment ahead of an announcement next week.”

“This is astonishing. @VictoriaLIVE is the best there is at @BBCNews,” another wrote.

“What on earth?? It’s clearly one of the better things. She and Emma Barnett are two of the best interviewers on BBC,” another vented.

However, other BBC viewers welcomed the news as one shared: “About time. BBC news and current affairs budget is out of control. slash it back to the basics, news at 6, 10, and BBC world service.”

“Used to enjoy it in the early years, but just lately seemed to be scraping the barrel for stories,” a second echoed.
