New Captain America actor set photos BUT it's not Anthony Mackie Falcon: What's going on?

At the conclusion of Avengers Endgame, an old Steve Rogers gave his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Falcon – making him the new Captain America. However, fans were puzzled to find out that the first Disney Plus MCU miniseries would be called The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, considering he’s taking up the First Avenger’s mantle. But now set photos captured on Monday from the six-part show appear to have revealed why.

Page Six have shared snaps of Wyatt Russell dressed as Captain America and holding his iconic shield.

The son of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell is playing John Walker in The Falcon and The Winter Solider.

Marvel comics fans will know him as a supervillain called Super Patriot, first introduced in 1986.

He went on to replace Captain America as a government-approved superhero, but eventually became known as US Agent.

In another set photo, Walker is seen in military uniform, with his arm in a sling.

Could Super Patriot be the true villain of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, with Mackie’s winged superhero having to win back the Captain America mantle that is truly his?

The Disney Plus show is directed by Kari Skogland and will also see Emily VanCamp and Daniel Bruhl reprise their roles as Sharon Carter and Helmut Zemo.

The pair were last seen in Captain America: Civil War and now are back for the streaming miniseries which takes place right after Avengers Endgame’s 2023 setting.

WandaVision sees Elizabeth Olsen return as Scarlet Witch, while Paul Bettany reprises Vision.

Fans will remember the latter was killed off before Thanos’ Snap in Avengers Infinity War so he could be resurrected like the others.

Plus Vision’s very survival was thanks to the Mind Stone in his forehead, which was destroyed by Thanos at the beginning of Avengers Endgame – while the other from the past used by Tony Stark was returned to 2012 by Captain America.

So just how is Vision back? Well, the promo art for the show sees the couple dressed in 1950s attire in period suburban happiness.

Presumably, this is a reality created by Wanda using her powers to help her have the life she wanted with her dead boyfriend.

The show will also feature Kat Denning’s Darcy from the Thor movies and Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Intriguingly, WandaVision will act as something of a prelude to 2021 movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which co-stars Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. Whatever the connection, clearly messing around with realities and the multiverse will play a key role in the MCU going forwards.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision will stream on Disney Plus in late 2020.
