Donald Trump crisis: Fox News host warns Sanders can swipe ‘thousands’ of Trump voters

Donald Trump may find the Democrats may pose a larger threat to his reelection this time according to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. The Fox News host argued Bernie Sanders could steal thousands of Trump voters unless the “crushing debt” burdening a generation is addressed by the Republicans. Mr Carlson explained that 47 percent lower-income Republicans felt the economy was hurting their family while only 30 percent said it was helping.

He added that candidates that convince voters they will make their lives better tend to do better in elections.

Mr Carlson said: “This is Donald Trump’s core, the lower-income Republicans, it is his base. Why do they feel that way?

“It is not personal it is just very simple.

“For a lot of middle-class people, wages are not keeping pace with expenses.

“Child care, housing, education, health care, they are all getting more expensive by the year.

“The student loan bubble is still inflating and it is burdening young people with debts so large that they can’t start families.

“These are economic problems but they require a political solution.

“The candidate that makes it easier for 30-year-olds to get married and have kids will win the election and deserve to win.

“Improve people’s lives and they will vote for you, the Republicans might want to write that on their hands.

“Bernie Sanders may get the Democratic nomination and if he does, every Republican in Washington will spend the next ten months reminding you that socialism doesn’t work and never has worked.

“But if Sanders pledges to forgive student loans he will still win many thousands of voters who went for Donald Trump last time.

“Why? Because debt is crushing an entire generation of Americans.

“Republicans need to make a plan to make it better or they will be left behind.”
