Piers Morgan: ‘They can’t afford me’ GMB host addresses BBC move after Tony Hall news

BBC director general Lord Tony Hall, 68, will step down from his role in the summer after seven years. Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, 54, told his Twitter fans people had suggested he should take over, but he joked they couldn’t afford him.

In view of his seven million followers, he wrote: “Very grateful to all those suggesting I become new Director-General of the BBC… but they can’t afford me.”

Many of his fans flocked to his post to comment, with one writing: “We will crowd fund you.”

A second commented: “No!!!! You are the only TV worth watching!”

A third added: “Underestimating yourself again Piers!”

“We all get paid good, but we’re paid, effectively, commercially.

“Advertisers pay to be on Good Morning Britain and it’s that money that pays us.

“The difference is we pay, the public, pays for these salaries [at the BBC].”

Piers has previously said he has 10 million in the bank.
